Lady of the Lake

£210.00

An impasto, expressionist and mythical landscape painting in oil on canvas board.

The title of this painting The Lady of the Lake refers to in Wales refers to a famous legend from Llyn y Fan Fach - a glacial lake in the Brecon Beacons.A young farmer fell in love with her, and after she agreed to marry him with the condition he wouldn't strike her three times, they lived happily, but he eventually broke the promise, and she returned to the lake, leaving behind her sons who became the famous Physicians of Myddfai, renowned herbalists.

I’ve come to recognise that I have painted landscapes during very chaotic times of my life - often when I have been temporarily homeless, or going through traumatic endings of relationships and situations - I am creating an alternative place to wander and rest - to find a sense of peace, I suppost. These spaces are ioften magined places but are also influenced by the landscape that surrounds me - the rolling hills and flowing rivers, mountain paths and vales that run through the valleys of Wales, my home.’ Joanne Headington
