Painted when the artist has just moved into her rented cottage in Mid Wales during a turbulent time of her life. She has spoken of painting landscapes as a means of seeking out a place where she can rest from chaos.
‘I’ve come to recognise that I have painted landscapes during very chaotic times of my life - often when I have been temporarily homeless, or going through traumatic endings of relationships and situations where I am creating an alternative place to wander in and rest - to find a sense of peace. These spaces are imagined places but are also influenced by the landscape that surrounds me - rolling hills and flowing rivers, mountain paths and roads that run through the valleys of Wales.’ Joanne Headington
