No Place Like Home
Walking Pen y Fan 2014
Dear Friends,
I’ve been quiet. Off grid and no longer on Insta, I find that I have so much more time to acually make things happen in my life. I am now living back in my valley home of Merthyr Tydfil, the heart of South Wales and a place so rich in history that you see ghosts of Christmas Past on every corner. The house I bought had been left empty for a number of years and was in dire need of a lot of TLC. The spare bedroom was to be my studio space - but it has been a dumping ground for the last two months, while I rip out the old kitchen and try to fit in a new one. I do not have the same energy I had once upon a time - but with the help of family and friends, I am making this little old house my own - and a studio is peeking out of the corners of the spare room. (Not shown here)
I’ll share a few photos of the house in process - but the big realisation is that I need more room. I need to sell my art. I do not have the room to hold on to my artwork. And because of this there is a drastic reduction in prices online and I’m practically giving my art away.
Please do have a look around - be stunned by the give-away prices and consider making a purchase of my original artwork for your home or perhaps a Christmas gift for a loved one. Basically -I need more space to create! Seriously, this is a problem that I don’t think non painters consider. I paint because I love it! I feel uniquely myself when I’m lost in making a painting. But storing unsold work is a genuine problem - not a marketing strategy.
It’s also the season for knitting and other handmade craftiness - my jewellery-making itch needs scratching - unpacking my tools and findings with little gems sparkling and pearls twinkling at me made me remember the joy of making beautiful things. The images below are from 2014. My fingers may not be as nimble as they once were, but I can still bend some silver wire and thread a pearl or two - so if I can make room in the spare room studio by selling the paintings from last year - I will clear the decks and start hammering and sawing away at metal again too. Jewellery takes up less storage space and I’ve noticed that people don’t mind receiving jewellery for Christmas gifts.
